It’s all about “Externalized Costs” n.( IK-STUR-NL-AHYZD KAWST)

Really wonderful video (20 mins long):

The Story of Stuff about our current system of stuff production.

There are also a few nice teasers (but watch the whole video above! It really is good)

  1. Have you read Cradle to Cradle? It’s a good read if you’re interested in this subject.

I really liked the presentation quality of the video, but I think they came off too harsh, negative, and over the top. I felt put off by it, even though I’m a big proponent of the movement. I can’t imagine a conservative watching the entire argument.

I also wish they listed more things that can be done to fix the problem. While I was reading the “10 things you can do list” I was like, “yeah, I do that. yep, know that…” I came out feeling hopeless and sad rather than empowered and capable of making change.

  2. I am in the middle of Cradle to Cradle – inspiring book.

That seems to be a fair criticism. It was negative, without presenting significant solutions.

I do suspect that a main focus of the video is to present a concept, and to teach folks to think about that inter-relations and impacts of our casual consumption of stuff. This was made somewhat more consumable by the illustrations.

All in all, I’m liked the video and am glad for it. I think many folks will watch it in order to learn, yet perhaps it could have reached a wider audience if it had a more constructive tone.
